- NO Eating or drinking after midnight, except for medicines. Please check with the anesthesiologist or your physician for specific medicines they may wish for you to take on the morning of your surgery.
- STOP TAKING NSAID’s (non steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine such as Motrin, Naprosyn, Celebrex, Vioxx), aspirin, aspirin products, and vitamin E at least 5 days prior to your surgery date.
- Blood thinning agents such as: Plavix or Coumadin (Warfarin) may need to be discontinued at an earlier date, check with your surgeon.
- Please shower and shampoo the night before surgery or the morning of surgery. You do not need to use a special shampoo before brain surgery. Do not wear any make-up.
- Please bring all films in your possession pertaining to your surgical case to the hospital on the day of surgery.
- Please bring a list of ALL of your medicines, doses, and schedules with you.
- The operating room requires that patients arrive 2 hours before their scheduled surgery time for adequate pre-surgery preparation.
- Please do not bring valuable items to the hospital.
Operations at Northside Hospital:
Please make sure that you complete the following:
- Consent form from the neurosurgery office
- Pre-surgery phone assessment
- Pre-surgery lab work-up (completed at Northside Hospital)
- Pre-surgery anesthesia consult, this is for high-risk patients only, which will be determined during your phone assessment.
- If additional testing is required, this will be brought to your attention through the office.
Operations at St. Joseph Hospital:
Please make sure you complete the following:
- Consent form from the neurosurgery office
- Pre-surgery lab work-up (completed at St. Joseph’s)
- Pre-surgery anesthesia consult, this is for high-risk patients only, which will be determined by your surgeon or PA.
- If additional testing is required, this will be brought to your attention through the office.
